PRESS RELEASE - It's Not Too Late to Vaccinate!

February 12, 2010

It’s Not Too Late to Vaccinate.

The holidays may be over but flu season is not. The Holmes County Health Department reminds you it is not too late to get a flu vaccination which is one of the best ways to protect against getting and spreading the flu. Those who have not already been vaccinated for H1N1 influenza can still get vaccinations that will be affective in preventing this strain of flu.

Each year the flu season begins in late October and usually lasts through March or even April or May. Flu activity, caused by either 2009 H1N1 or seasonal flu viruses, may rise and fall, but it is expected to continue for several more months. Anyone who wants to reduce their risk of the flu should get vaccinated.

Along with vaccinations, there are everyday actions you can take to stay healthy. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands often with soap and water, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth (germs spread that way) and stay home if you become ill. The CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

Vaccinations are available at the health department. Walk-in vaccination clinics are being held at the Holmes County Health District at 931 Wooster Road, Millersburg. Clinics are scheduled for: February 16th, 1 pm – 4 pm and February 24th from 9 am – 4 pm. Future clinics are planned for March and information will be available on the Health District’s website at http://holmeshealth.org.
