Environmental Health Services

The Environmental health services division, led by Jon Croup, RS promotes the public's health through surveillance, education, and enformecement programs that identify, prevent and abate the environmental conditions that are threats to the public's health.

The services of this division include enforcement of public health laws and regulations, development of policies and plans to protect the public's health, monitoring the health status of Holmes County to identify and solve community health problems.

Diagnosing and investigating health problems and health hazards in Holmes County. Informing, educating, and empowering Holmes County residents about health issues. Mobilizing community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems in Holmes County

Departments

Dog bites/Animal bites/Rabies
Environmental Health Staff receive information regarding animal bites, and enforce regulations regarding bites.
Food Program 
Environmental Health Staff review plans, conduct inspections, and respond to complaints The Board of Health issues licensees
Landfill 
Environmental Health Staff inspect, educate, responds to complaints, and licenses the Holmes County Landfill
Manufactured Home Parks
Environmental Health Staff license and inspect manufactured home parks for sanitation, safety, and water management
Mercury Recycling 
Mercury is a toxic metal found in fluorescent light bulbs, thermostats, and some switches.
Nuisance Complaints 
Concerns about threats to the publics health are addressed by our sanitarian staff
Open Dumping 
The Health District responds to complaints to eliminate open dumping sites

Private Water Wells 
Environmental Health Staff inspect and issue permits for new private water wells

 
Recreational Vehicle Parks and Campgrounds 
Environmental Health Staff license and inspect for sanitation, safety, and water management.
Sewage 
Environmental Health Staff approve plans, issue permits, conduct inspections, and respond to complaints about failing systems.
Swimming Pools 
Environmental Health Staff license, inspect, educate on how to prevent infections at public swimming/bathing sites
Tattoos 
Environmental Health Staff and nursing staff together approve plans, issue licenses, conduct inspections, and respond to complaints
Temporary Park/Camp
Environmental Health Staff license and inspect for sanitation, safety, and water management.
